The intimacy Christ desires

My beloved has gone down to his garden,
    to the beds of spices,
to browse in the gardens
    and to gather lilies

 I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine;
    he browses among the lilies.

Song of song 6:2-3

In the Song, the picture of a secret garden is frequently used  to depict the deepest intimacy that a person can share with another person, in other words sex. The writer speaks of walls being broken into and the garden disturbed and spoiled but even after that, the man comes in and fixes the broken walls and restores the brokenness of what was once a beautiful and private place.

If we see this picture in the light of what Jesus has done and how He desires to know us, then in the lives of those of us who are not married and those of us who do not have intimate platonic relationships, the thing that once seemed impossible to possess becomes possible and even easy to have. The intimacy that is promised in Christ is deeper and closer than even the best looking human relationships that people have because even as our Saviour is sinless He continually cleanses us of our infinitely sinful disposition and draws us into a relationship that is eternal and perfect.

Where there is loneliness, where there are broken marriages, where there is a call to be single, even in the worst situations Jesus calls us into a place where He can love and provide for our every spiritual and emotional need.  All this, and much more, is available to everyone who believes in the name of Jesus Christ.

He is waiting for you to come to Him to be restored.
