Glory!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirt of God was hovering over the waters and God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Genesis 1.1-3

For God who said. “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

2 Corinthians 4.6

God’s first creative act was to speak light into a cosmos in darkness, and if you read these words this morning as a believer then, at a spiritual level, he has done the same for you as he has revealed the knowledge of himself and his glory in the face of Christ and in particular through his life, death, resurrection, ascension and promised return.

It is a self-evident fact that it is only because  of his creation of light that we can see the glory of creation and as it is all around us we probably take light for granted.

Sadly  there is a danger that we take the ‘knowledge of the glory of God’ for granted.

This we must never do.

The glory of the cosmos is great and wonderful but the ‘knowledge of the glory of God’ is greater and more wonderful by far, for on it hangs our eternal future, for without that knowledge there is  no hope.

Reflect today and every day on the glory of God and pray that he will reveal more of the wonder of it as you do.
