Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians 1.3
I don’t know if you read yesterday’s blog but if you didn’t may I encourage you to read it before you delve into the present one in order that the huge contrast between two different yet parallel scenarios might be seen.
Our verses from Ephesians 6 yesterday, made reference to spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms, while here, at the beginning of his letter Paul draws us to an altogether different focus in the same heavenly realms, namely the spiritual blessings that belong to the believer, in Christ.
Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church is full of glorious spiritual superlatives and here in v.3 of the first chapter we have the first!
As believers we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
I encourage you to meditate on this truth this morning and especially the two words ‘in Christ’. It is in Christ, that Paul tells us in his letter to the Colossians that ‘ all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell’ (1.19`) and if we are ‘in him’ all that is ours!
We are being further reminded of these incredible truths as we are following Dr Eryl Davies’s devotionals from Romans chapter 8 and we will return to the links in the golden chain on Wednesday, but as we wait for that we follow the same theme of blessing from Ephesians.
There is a very real present darkness in our world as we considered yesterday, but ultimately, it cannot put out the light that shines for us, and for the world, ‘in Christ’.
This light comes from God so let us do as Paul urges in our verse for today and give him all the praise and ask him to equip us to demonstrate to the world that we live, in a different dimension, namely in ‘the heavenly realms’ to his glory. That is the dimension that the world so desperately needs for it is the dimension for which we are created.
As believers we must demonstrate the surpassing difference of life in those two dimensions.
Darkness outside of Christ and every spiritual blessing and therefore light, in him.
