A word for today

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3.1-2

As we approach Easter we are especially reminded of the resurrection, but that glorious and miraculous demonstration of God’s power should daily hold our attention because as Paul reminds us here, as believers we have been raised with Christ.

This is indeed a mind blowing truth in our current Covid 19 dominated world, for that assessment of the present situation is wrong, for it is the risen Christ who rules our world from his exalted position at the right hand of God.

What confidence that gives! What comfort. What assurance that in the final analysis Covid 19 does not win, for Christ wins the final victory. In the short term we suffer in a variety of ways but as we do, we must remember who and where we are – raised with Christ who is at God’s right hand.

So let us set our minds on things above and be wise and in so doing glorify God in a frightened and needy world, where we are to shine like the brightness of the heavens being people who will lead many to righteousness. (Daniel 12.3)
